Gabriel González Núñez

I was born in Montevideo, and now I live in the Rio Grande Valley, where I write. There are many reasons why I write. I write because the world needs more poetry. I write because children need more hope. I write because I suspect that life is more than what the eye can see. I write because I search for the nutrients in my roots. I write because as a globetrotter I’ve seen that it is necessary to write.

For all of those reason and more, I wrote the poetry collection Ese golpe de luz (FlowerSong 2020), a set of children’s books, including Me llamo Juana y así me hice poeta (Pinguin Random House Uruguay 2019), and an unusual book called Estampas del Libro de Mormón (self 2018).

When I’m not writing, I earn a living training translators and interpreters at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and I focus on helping my daughter launch on their own life projects. When I am not writing I think about soccer, life, and writing. And, I must insist, I write because I can’t not do it.

Nací en Montevideo y ahora vivo en el Valle del Río Grande, donde escribo. Escribo por muchos motivos. Escribo porque el mundo necesita más poesía. Escribo porque los niños precisan más esperanza. Escribo porque sospecho que esta vida es más que aquello que ven los ojos. Escribo porque busco los nutrientes de mis raíces. Escribo porque en mi condición de trotamundos he visto que hay que escribir.

Por todo eso y más escribí el poemario Ese golpe de luz (FlowerSong 2020), así como unos libros para niños, entre ellos Me llamo Juana y así me hice poeta (Pinguin Random House Uruguay 2019), y también una obra insólita llamada Estampas del Libro de Mormón (edición de autor 2018).

Cuando no escribo me dedico a formar traductores e intérpretes en La Universidad de Texas en el Valle del Río Grande y a embarcar a mis hijas en sus propios proyectos de vida. Cuando no escribo pienso en el fútbol, en la vida y en escribir. E, insisto, escribo porque no puedo dejar de hacerlo.
