Exhume explores the legacies, stories, and spirits of the women who have passed and still live on. We women are multifaceted, beautiful, strong beings that patriarchal societies have tried to silence and still our impact cannot be quieted. The different sides of us cannot be flattened even after death. We may be Black and Brown and speak different languages and still our experiences breaking borders and generations are understood amongst us. In Exhume, I honor the women who have come before me to show me tenderness, wisdom, grace, vigor, rebellion, justice, love, and passion. I honor the women who showed me all parts of womanhood. I honor the women whose efforts I do not want to have been in vain. I honor the women who proved I could be more. I honor the women who pushed me to live as my authentic self. Exhume is an ode to sisterhood, a poetic documentation of history, a gift to the future Black and Brown girls who need to remember the magic in being a woman.
