The Aldama Brown Ink Award - Open for Submissions beginning September 1

Brown Ink, a FlowerSong Press imprint, will open for submissions on September 1, 2025 seeking manuscripts across all genres that push the boundaries of word-drawn art and visual storytelling.

THE ALDAMA BROWN INK AWARD

The Aldama Brown Ink Award supports the publication of two word-drawn books annually in the prestigious Brown Ink series.

We seek innovative manuscripts that blend text with graphics, drawings with words—visual storytelling in all its forms across fiction, poetry, nonfiction, autoethnography, and beyond. Dedicated to amplifying underrepresented identities and experiences, Brown Ink welcomes submissions in English, Spanish/English, and Spanish from writers of any citizenship.

Winners are selected by FlowerSong Press editorial staff and join a vibrant community of visual storytellers pushing the boundaries of word-drawn art.

Submission Window: September 1 – November 30

Send your polished manuscript via email to Edward Vidaurre at editor@flowersongpress.com and Frederick Aldama at aldama@utexas.edu
