Join Our Team as a Volunteer Typesetter/Book Designer
Flowersong Press is a small independent publisher dedicated to amplifying minority voices in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Our mission is to bring diverse and underrepresented perspectives to readers through thoughtfully produced books and meaningful collaboration with our authors.
We are currently seeking applications for an experienced Volunteer Typesetter to assist in our current production of book publications. Please note, this is an unpaid and part-time volunteer position.
Key Responsibilities
● Assist with book design and layout using Adobe Creative Suite (primarily InDesign)
● Format manuscripts and prepare files for print and digital publication
● Support editorial and production workflows
● Help maintain organized publishing files and project timelines
● Perform basic proofreading and formatting checks
Qualifications
● Familiarity with word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word or Google Docs)
● Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign; Illustrator and Photoshop a plus
● Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
● Excellent written communication skills
● Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines
● Interest in independent publishing and diverse literary voices
Preferred Qualifications
● Editorial experience at a literary organization/journal/magazine/press/etc.
● Coursework or experience in Graphic Design, Creative Writing, Publishing, English, Communications, or a related field
Time Commitment
● Part-time (approximately 10–15 hours per week)
● Flexible schedule; Remote location
